Breakdown of Indians' 2017 schedule
With the start of practice for the 2017 high school football season approaching, Varsity Sports Network's Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2016 record: 11-2 (Class 3A state finalist/Baltimore County 4A/3A champion)
2016 review: The Indians reached their fourth 3A state final since 2010 and won a third straight Baltimore County 4A/3A crown. The Reisterstown school has 28 letterwinners scheduled back in 2017 including All-County linemen Isaiah Lewis.
2017 opponents' win/loss record (from 2016) 66-34 (.660)
Toughest 2017 opponent: DeMatha Catholic. The Prince George's County private school is the No. 1 program in the state, and has won four straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference titles. The Stags, ranked No. 6 in USA Today's Super 25 preseason rankings, have a mega-loaded roster with University of Maryland commits Austin Fontaine and Evan Gregory, John Morgan and Judson Tallandier (Pittsburgh) and junior wide receiver DeMarcco Hellams, a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2018 by Rivals.com.
Most intriguing 2017 opponent: Smyrna. The Eagles won the Delaware state Division I championship in 2016 and 2015. Smyrna has the state's top recruit in running back Leddie Brown, who's committed to West Virginia.
By a number: 31. Double-digit victories during Franklin's 32-game regular season winning streak in Baltimore County play.
