With the start of practice for the 2017 high school football season approaching, Varsity Sports Network's Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
Friendship Academy of Engineering & Technology Grizzlies
2016 record: 5-5 (Class 1A South Region semifinalist)
2016 review: The Grizzlies reached the 1A state playoffs for the fourth straight season last fall. The Baltimore City school graduated key seniors Christopher Gross, Dawuan Mackall and Joseph Marine.
2017 opponents' win/loss record (from 2016) 36-49 (.424)
Toughest 2017 opponent: Reginald Lewis. The Falcons won the city Division II crown last season under Elwood Townsend, who left for Woodlawn. Emanuel Glover takes over and have 24 letterwinners scheduled back.
Most intriguing 2017 opponent: Forest Park. The school, also known as NorthPark in the city, combines students from Forest Park and Northwestern high schools. The city squad finished second in Division II and narrowly missed qualifying for the 2A North playoffs last fall.
By a number: 3. Teams with winning records in 2016 FAET will play in 2017.
