Breakdown of Owls' 2017 schedule
With the start of practice for the 2017 high school football season approaching, Varsity Sports Network's Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.
2016 record: 8-3 (Class 3A North Region semifinalist)
2016 review: The Owls reached the state postseason for the second straight season, but standout quarterback Darrius Sample graduated and coach Sean Sandora departed for Archbishop Curley. Matt Banta has the coaching reigns in 2017 and have 23 letterwinners scheduled to return, led by running back Isaiah Antol.
2017 opponents' win/loss record (from 2016) 54-43 (.557)
Toughest 2017 opponent: Calvert Hall College. The Cardinals finished 5th in the MIAA A Conference, the area's toughest league. The Towson school return 43 letterwinners with University of Maryland commit Chance Campbell (linebacker) and offensive linemen Reginald Sutton (Rutgers commit), both all-league selections last fall, leading the way.
Most intriguing 2017 opponent: Franklin. The Indians have dominated the Baltimore County 4A/3A (32 straight league wins) and defeated the Owls twice last fall. All-County selections Jay Thompson and Isaiah Lewis return for the Reisterstown school, seeking a fourth straight league title.
By a number: 20. Victories the last two seasons by Dundalk, second-most among Baltimore County programs (Franklin - 21).
