Breakdown of Lakers' 2017 schedule

pughWith the start of practice for the 2017 high school football season approaching, Varsity Sports Network's Derek Toney takes a look at the regular season itinerary for select area teams.

Boys' Latin School Lakers

2016 record: 7-4 (MIAA B Conference finalist)

2016 review: The Lakers reached the MIAA B final, losing to St. Vincent Pallotti. Twenty-four letterwinners are projected to return in 2017 including defensive back/wide receiver Rashawn Evans, one of the state's Top 35 seniors by Rivals.com.

2017 opponents' win/loss record (from 2016): 53-50 (.515)

Toughest 2017 opponent: St. Vincent Pallotti. The Panthers dominated Boys' Latin twice last season, the latter in the MIAA B final. The Laurel school graduated all-league performers Jarrett and James Patterson (Buffalo) and Cameron Sullivan-Brown (Penn State), but quarterback Nasir Edmond returns along with junior defensive end/linebacker Coziah Izzard and running back Blake Corum, who both have several Division I verbal offers.

Most intriguing 2017 opponent: Loyola Blakefield. The Dons will have a new coach (Anthony Zehyoue) and offensive scheme as they look to compete in the MIAA A Conference. All-league defensive tackle Evan Boozer, a Temple University commit, will lead the Towson school.

By a number: 5. Number of teams (Archbishop Curley, Century, Loyola, Severn School and St. Paul's School) with new coaches Boys' Latin play this fall.
