After building a lead on Friday, Mustangs return on Saturday to clinch their place in 3A/2A state title game
C. Milton Wright High School’s girls lacrosse team had some unfinished business to attend to Saturday afternoon at Northeast High School in Anne Arundel County in a Class 3A/2A state semifinal.

And the Mustangs did just that, taking a 5-2 lead they built on Friday before lightning forced the game to be completed a day later and completing a 12-5 victory over Stephen Decatur High School to earn a berth in the state final to be played Tuesday or Wednesday against No. 2 Glenelg at Stevenson University.

Junior Moriah Snyder paced C. Milton Wright with three goals and an assist as the Harford County team maintained the three-goal cushion it produced Friday before blowing the game open with a 5-0 run in the second half.

Snyder, juniors Kristen White and Jordan Landsman and sophomore Taylor Marchetti all scored during the outburst that essentially put the game away.

Single goals by junior Maria Snee, Marchetti and Landsman and a pair of tallies by Snyder staked the Mustangs to the 5-2 lead before lightning forced the game to be delayed.

Sophomore Claire Motley then made it 6-2 shortly after plate resumed.

The Seahawks then netted two of the next three goals to make it a game, briefly.

Once the Mustangs went on another roll, it was enough to earn a ticket to the finale.

Facing a Glenelg team that is ranked nationally will be a daunting task for the Mustangs, although C. Milton Wright coach Tayler Kuzma said she was happy with the way her team completed against the Eastern Shore’s Seahawks.

“I thought the girls knew what they had to do and came out and did it,” Kuzma said. “We knew they (Decatur) would come out strong, but we played well.”

Kozma said that a 16-5 setback to Glenelg in early April does not dampen Kuzma’s enthusiasm for the rematch.

And the way junior goalie Caitlin Haren played in the second half after classmate Ana DiPeso was between the pipes for the first half should help matters against the Gladiators.
