In a rematch of last year's MIAA B lacrosse championship game, John Carroll cruised to a 16-8 win over Glenelg Country, Friday in Elliott City, locking up the top seed for the upcoming league playoffs.
In winning for the ninth straight time, the Patriots improved 13-5 overall and a still perfect 8-0 record in the MIAA B Conference, securing the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.
John Carroll was led by attackmen Jude Brown, Nick Rosachi and Joe Rayman who all registered hat tricks. The score was 8-5 John Carroll at halftime.
For Glenelg Country, Cameron Martin led the way with two goals and two assists. Riley Schmidt had two goals and one assist, Mikey Welsh and Nelson Lequang each had two scores, and Riley Martin had one goal.
Glenelg Country School (5-8 overall) fell to 3-5 in the conference where it is tied for fifth-place with Saints Peter & Paul. The Dragons have completed their league schedule and now must await the outcome of Tuesday’s game between Archbishop Curley and Friends School to determine if it will reach the post-season.
Curley and Friends are both 3-4 in the league and currently tied for fourth-place. Tuesday’s winner will clinch a playoff spot, while the loser will drop into a three-way tie for the final two spots with CGC and Saints Peter & Paul.
If the three-way tie includes Friends, Glenelg Country would take the fifth seed by virtue of a 2-0 record in head-to-head competition and Friends would be the sixth-seed by virtue of its win over the Sabres.
If Curley ends up in the tie with the Sabres and Dragons, all three team’s would be 1-1 head-to-head. Working from the top down in the standings, Curley and Saints Peter & Paul both own wins over third-place Park School, while Glenelg Country lost to the Bruins. Thus, GCS would be eliminated, Saints Peter & Paul would be the fifth seed by virtue of its win over Curley and the Friars would be the sixth seed.
