Fallston High’s Bryce Logan and Patterson Mill’s Austin Koehn hooked up in an outstanding pitching dual, Wednesday afternoon, both tossing complete games for their respective sides. In the end, Koehn was just a little better, as he led the 7th-ranked Huskies to a 4-2 win over the 17th-ranked Cougars, in UCBAC Chesapeake Division action.
Koehn never got to a three ball count on any batter, as he allowed just four hits, one earned run and struck out nine.
Logan allowed only six hits and struck out five. He also only walked one batter, but it was costly as it turned into a first inning run for the Huskies. Nick Cress drew that walk, stole second and advanced to third when the ball got by second, before scoring on an infield hit by Thomas Kragh, with two outs.
In the fifth inning, Patterson Mill (12-1 overall, 7-0 Chesapeake) grew its lead to 4-0, when Eric Raley reached on an error, Cooper Mattheu singled and Jace Valle Shaw had a bunt single to drive in the first run of the rally. Max Elliott then doubled to score Mattheu and Steve Spencer brought Valle Shaw home with a sac fly.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Fallston’s Everett Cox reached on an error and Alex Baily got hit by a pitch. Following a passed ball, Noah Hagenston got his third hit of the game to plate both Fallston (8-4, 4-4 Chesapeake) runs.
In the bottom of the 7th-inning, with 12 tosses remaining in his pitch count, Koehn retired the side in 10 pitches for the complete game.
