Surging Mount Hebron girls' lax wins tournament crown

After back-to-back double-digit losses to start the season, Mount Hebron High girls' lacrosse appeared headed for a long spring. The Vikings have turned things around, and Saturday claimed another Fight for Five Tournament title.

The No. 20 Vikings defeated Mount de Sales Academy in the final at Blandair Park in Columbia. Ellie Miller had four goals and an assist for Mount Hebron, and Lexi Arens finished with two scores and five assists.

The Ellicott City school held off a second half rally from the Sailors to win its annual Easter holiday tournament for the second year in a row. The Vikings (7-3 overall) defeated eventual Class 2A/1A state champ Manchester Valley in last year's title game.

Mount Hebron defeated Manchester Valley a couple of weeks ago and perennial Anne Arundel County power and th-ranked Severna Park, part of a 7-1 run since losses to No. 2 Glenelg (15-4) and St. Paul's School (19-9). The Vikings opened Saturday with a 16-7 victory over North Harford.

Meg Pallozzi scored four goals and Erin Demek, Kaitlin Rice and Arens each recorded hat tricks. Hunter Meisz had three goals and an assist for North Harford, and Brenna Duley added two goals and two assists.

No. 16 Bel Air, which lost to Mount de Sales in the opening round (19-15) rebounded with a 20-13 victory over North Harford. Junior attack Julia Henry had four goals and two assists for the Bobcats (6-1), and Anna Farley also scored four goals. 

Brenna Duley had a game-best seven goals for North Harford (4-6).
