Friars get their third win in the last four
After a slow start, the Archbishop Curley baseball team is starting to show some life, winning for the third time in its last four games, Thursday, edging Sherwood of Montgomery County, 6-4, in eight innings.

Avenging a loss to Sherwood from last season, the Friars (6-8) scored two times in the top of the eighth. Jalen March started the winning rally with a one out triple to left. Walks to Corey Burton and Matt Peters loaded the bases in front of Zeke Maldonado, who homered twice in Monday’s Curley win at No. 3 Bel Air. Maldonado ripped a hard grounder to short, which was booted, allowing both March and Burton to score.

Burton was the winning pitcher in relief. He came on in the seventh with two on and two out and got a strikeout, only to see the batter reach first on a dropped third strike to load the bases. He then struck out the next hitter to end the threat. In the eighth, he gave up a leadoff walk, but got the next three to close out the contest.

Curley got on the board when Paul Nixon drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the third inning and Trent Gast-Woodward followed with an RBI fielder’s choice grounder. The lead grew to 3-0 in the fourth when Maldonado tripled home Peters, who had walked in front of him, and 4-0 in the fifth when Nixon scored on a sac fly by Wesley Meadowcroft.

Sherwood, however, rallied to tie the contest with one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
