Greyhounds have the talent and leadership to end a two-year playoff drought; Team Preview
Rare is it to find back-to-back years in which the Gilman lacrosse team has missed the MIAA A Conference playoffs, but the Greyhounds are seeking to end just a streak in 2017.

Plenty of talent and leadership return to help Gilman regain its place among the MIAA elite and it may all begin with the squad’s top returning scorer, senior midfielder Wade Oursler. Oursler, who will play at the University of Maryland next return, returns after scoring 29 goals and handing eight assists last year.

Senior Austin Hudson, who will play at Washington & Lee, returns after producing 16 goals and five assists in 2016, while senior attack Dylan Bird (Vermont) had 10 goals and seven assists last spring.

“The senior leadership as we head into the season has been tremendous,” said coach Brooks Matthews, who enters his 13th season at Gilman. “They are aware of the Gilman lacrosse tradition and are eager to take a place among the successful teams of the past. Most importantly, the seniors have been great mentors and set a tone for a positive attitude and a high energy level that has run throughout the program.”

A healthy Woody Kelly, who had five goals and two assists during an injury-marred junior campaign, will be a boost for the Greyhounds. Kelly is committed to Denver. Two other key returners are sophomore Andy Andrews (10 goals, 2 assists) and senior defensman/long stick middle Taylor Cashman.
