Shilling scores four times to lead the Lakers
While most of Maryland high school sports action was put on ice by Tuesday’s winter weather event across the mid-atlantic, the Boys’ Latin lacrosse team was in sunny Boca Raton, Florida for a showdown with St. Andrew’s, one of the top teams from the Sunshine State, and the Lakers powered their way to an 11-7 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season, with both victories coming on the team’s season-opening trip to Florida.

BL scored three goals in a 1:52 span, early in the fourth quarter, to turn a 6-4 lead into a five-goal advantage and the host Scots never recovered. Jake Glatz triggered the surge by taking the opening face-off of the fourth quarter and racing to the net for a goal. He then won the next two draws as well and fed Luke Shilling and Matt Brandau for goals.

Shilling, a senior on his way to Johns Hopkins next year, scored four times to lead the Lakers against St. Andrew’s.

This was the 14th meeting in the last 17 years between BL and St. Andrews and BL has won all by one of the contests. St. Andrew’s got its lone victory in the series in 2008. The Lakers opened their Florida trip with a 14-9 win over Oxbridge Academy on Saturday.
