Dragons down Chapelgate, 69-45, in O’Donnell’s debut

In what has become an annual Thanksgiving rivalry game to open the basketball season, Glenelg Country continued its recent dominance over Howard County neighbor Chapelgate Christian, Monday in Ellicott City, as the host Dragons rolled to a 69-45 victory.

The game was the debut of for new GCS head coach Garrett O’Donnell who replaced long time Dragon coach Kevin Quinlin. O’Donnell leads a revamped and young roster, but his squad performed well in their opener.

Sophomore Jordan Oates led the way with 19 points, while junior Chase Paar netted 14 and senior Caidon Owen scored 15 points.

Oates did all of his damage in less than three quarters as he came off the bench early in the second quarter and immediately sparked the Dragons, helping GCS turn a five-point lead into a 13-point halftime advantage.

Odell Dickerson scored 14 points to lead Chapelgate and Jalen Morant added 13, while Blake Hatcher and Cameron Heard scored nine points each.
