Warriors top Park School to claim fourth seed in MIAA C hoops
With the final playoff spot in the MIAA C Conference basketball postseason on the line, Park School hosted Beth Tfiloh in a winner take all matchup, Tuesday night, and the visiting Warriors grabbed the price with a decisive 65-33 victory.
With the victory Beth Tfiloh (13-11 overall) improved to 6-5 in the league, with one game to play. The Warriors, who will travel to Saints Peter & Paul on Thursday, now own a season sweep over Park (9-10 overall), which completed its league schedule at 6-6, and will advance to the playoffs regardless of the outcome of its game with the Sabres.
The Warriors got up 4-0 and slowly built their lead by going inside and getting a combined 13 first quarter points from senior post players Kameron Glazer and Oren Pincever. Reserve senior guard Andrew Kasner also hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Beth Tfiloh a 17-7 lead at the end of one quarter.
Glazer and Pincever continued doing damage, combining for another seven points in the second quarter, while Park struggled to get anything going offensively. Beth Tfiloh led 31-13 at the half. The Warriors then pushed the lead up to 41-17 and Park was unable to get any closer than 20, the rest of the way, as Glazer continued his dominance scoring 17 of his game high 27 in the second half.
Junior guard Harris Gartenhaus went 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the second half, finishing with 17 points overall, as the Warriors won going away.
Cristo Rey, which is 8-1 in the league, is closing in on the top seed in the C Conference, while Key School (6-3) and Concordia Prep (7-4) are battling for the second seed.
