Hawks rally for a 14-4 win over Long Reach

Visiting Long Reach scored a pair of runs in the first and fifth innings, but River Hill dominated the rest of the way as the host Hawks rallied for a 14-4, five-inning victory over the Lightning, in Howard County softball action on Wednesday.

De’aja Green and Kamryn Walker each doubled for Long Reach in its two-run first inning uprising, which may have been bigger had River Hill not escaped the inning with a triple play. It began with a line drive snared in the circle by River Hill pitcher Jenna Kenyon, who threw to first for the second half, before the ball went back across the diamond to get the final out a third base.

Hailey Ramburg cracked a two-run home run for the Lightning in the fifth.

The Hawks produced 11 hits and turned in some great base running while at bat. Annabel McCullough went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's to lead the lineup. Brooke Gettier also had a big day, going 2-for-3 with three RBI’s.

After failing to scoring the first inning, River Hill scored three in the second, five in the third and three more in the fourth and fifth to invoke the run rule.

River Hill is now 4-0 overall and 4-0 in Howard County league play. The Hawks are one of three undefeated teams in the conference, as Howard is 5-0 and Reservoir is also 4-0. Long Reach fell to 0-4 with the loss.
