Calvert Hall repeats as No. 1 in final VSN Boys' Lacrosse Top 20; 2A state champ Marriotts Ridge finishes 11th 


Calvert Hall College started the season at No. 1 in VSN's Boys Lacrosse Top 20. The Cardinals went through some ups-and-downs, but the Towson squad was able to make history.

Calvert Hall is No. 1 in the final VSN Top 20, marking the first time a team has gone back-to-back in the top spot in the poll's eight-year history. The Cardinals became the first team in a decade to win back-t0-back titles in the MIAA A Conference, widely regarded as the nation's toughest league.

Boys' Latin School, McDonogh School, Loyola Blakefield and Severn School finish in the Top 5. State public champions Severna Park (Class 4A) and Westminster (3A) are 8th and 10th, respectively.

2. BOYS' LATIN SCHOOL (15-4)

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Lakers reached the MIAA A Conference final for the second time in three seasons. The Baltimore City private school defeated nine teams ranked in VSN's Final Top 20, including No. 1 and eventual MIAA A champ Calvert Hall College.

3. MCDONOGH SCHOOL (13-5)

Last week's rank: #3

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Eagles reached the MIAA A Conference semifinals for the sixth straight season. The Owings Mills school spent five weeks at No. 1 in VSN's Top 20.

4. LOYOLA BLAKEFIELD (13-6)

Last week's rank: #4

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Dons lost to eventual champ Calvert Hall College in the MIAA A Conference semifinals. The Towson school defeated five teams ranked in VSN's Final Top 20.

 

 

5. SEVERN SCHOOL (9-7)

Last week's rank: #5

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Admirals reached the MIAA A Conference quarterfinals. The Anne Arundel County private school defeated eventual MIAA A finalist Boys' Latin School and eventual Class 4A state champion Severna Park during the regular season.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Saints reached the MIAA A Conference quarterfinals. The Annapolis private school defeated five teams ranked in the final VSN Top 20.

7. GILMAN SCHOOL (7-8)

SEASON HIGHLIGHT: The Greyhounds defeated three teams ranked in the final VSN Top 20.

8. SEVERNA PARK (17-2)

Last week's rank: #10

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Falcons won their third consecutive state title, defeating Montgomery County's Winston Churchill, 8-7, in the Class 4A final at Stevenson University last week. The Robinson Road school won a third straight Anne Arundel County championship.

Last week: The Bulls lost to then-No. 12 Marriotts Ridge, 8-6, Class 2A state final at Stevenson University.

Last week: The Owls defeated Northern of Calvert County, 12-8, Class 3A state final at Stevenson University.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: The Mustangs defeated then-No. 8 Hereford, 8-6, in the Class 2A state final at Stevenson University last week. The Marriottsville school defeated Howard County champ Glenelg (2A South Region semifinals), eventual 3A state semifinalist Towson and 2017 2A/1A state champ Southern twice.
